Vincent J. Warger (February 13, 1925 – June 27, 2021) of Palmetto Bay, Florida passed away peacefully at his home, with his loving wife and seven children at his side on Sunday, June 27th, 2021, at the age of 96.
Vince was born and raised in Irvington, N.J., where he joined the Army Air Force, graduated from flight engineering school, and was deployed to Grosetto, Italy, in 1944. Vince flew 6 (of 26) night missions before his bomber was struck by enemy shrapnel and caught fire over enemy territory. After helping a crewmember out of his gun turret and into his parachute, Vince, 19, and his three crew parachuted from the flaming bomber into the cold night sky, and landed in an olive grove behind enemy lines. With the help of a local Italian farmer, all made it back to base safely, and later reunited to fly an additional 20 successful bombing missions before the war ended in 1945.
Vince returned home, graduated from Syracuse University in New York, and became a Special Agent of the FBI (28 years) in the New York office, where he met and married the love of his life, Joan Quigg, and settled initially in Maplewood, New Jersey. In 1968 the family moved to Palmetto Bay, Florida. Vince and Joan were blessed with seven wonderful children (and 12 grandchildren): Patricia Warger; Joanne (and Chuck) Warger-Boland (and grandchildren Brittany and Shannon [and Tyler, Lilly and great granddaughter Harper], Brandon & Michelle, Beau & Grace); Vincent (and Fiorella) Warger, Jr. (and grandchildren Vincent III, Kevin, and Brenda); Kathy (and Rob) Warger-Cymbaluk; Ellen Warger-Sepe (and granddaughters Sarah, Amanda, and Katie); Kenneth (and Barbara) Warger (and grandchildren Kenny and Jessie [and Madison and Dorian]); and Chrissy (and Busta) Warger-Cates (and granddaughters Joani and Mollie).
One cannot adequately summarize another’s entire life, or the profound impact one person had on the lives of so many, in only a few short paragraphs, but Vince could best be described as the quintessential patriarch of the Warger family – always offering heartfelt advice, guidance, assistance, support and more to each of us along our life journeys.
