Obituary of Vincent Daniel Hurney
Hurney, Vincent D. Jr., of Saginaw Township, passed away peacefully at his home, with his family by his side, on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. He was 83 years old. Vincent “Vince” Daniel Hurney was born on August 30, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Vincent D. Hurney Sr. and Angelina (Bain) Hurney. He married the love of his life, Helen M. Wargo on April 24, 1954 in Saginaw; she survives him. Vince proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United State Navy as a 3rd Class Petty Officer. He spent two years on the destroyer USS Vandivier DER 540 and five years active reserves. Vince was a member of the American Legion Post #22. After his honorable discharge, he worked for Baker Perkins for 33 years as an engineer and manager. Then, he worked for W.A. Kibbe, a consulting engineering firm, where he was a project engineer for 16 years, the last three as a private contractor prior to retiring. He enjoyed old cars and music. Vince was a master-fixer of everything. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Helen; two daughters and one son: Joyce (Keith) Hughey, Michael (Gayle) Hurney, and Susan (John) Bowman; six grandchildren: Sarah (Bob) Johnson, Joseph (Megan) Hovis, Donald (Julia) Smith, Steven (Krystguna) Hurney, Heather (Naveed) Adjum and the granddaughter who shared his birthday, and Lisa (fiance, Dan Walters) Bowman; two step-grandchildren: Brian and Stacie; four great-grandchildren: Daniel, Clair, Collette, and Avery; and sister, Angelina Gwizdala. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harvey Hurney and sister, Elizabeth Trahan.
