Vincent A. Hunihan, 94, died Monday October 17, 2011 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. He had been a resident of The Village at Mariners Point in East Haven for the past five years. He was a longtime resident of Clark Hill Rd. in Milford.

Born in New Haven, he was a son of Michael and Helen (Cloughessey) Hunihan. He attended Hillhouse High School as well as Quinnipiac College.

Mr Hunihan was employed by The Southern New England Telephone Company for 37 years retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Morris Tyler Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers and Past President of the New Haven Sales and Marketing Executives.

He had a lifelong love of anything mechanical including cars, boats and especially motorcycles which he raced in his early years. In 1953 he built one of the first fiberglass automobiles and also constructed the house that he raised his family in, in Milford.

Mr. Hunihan met his wife, the former Frances Putnam in 1936. They were married in 1945 seven days after he returned from the war.  She predeceased him in 2008 after 62 years of marriage.  He lovingly cared for her for eleven years at the end of her life.

He was also predeceased by his two brothers James M. Hunihan and Edward F. Hunihan, also men who served their country.

Mr. Hunihan is survived by a daughter Mrs. Paul (Barbara) Tully of South Portland, ME;  two sons, Vincent A. Hunihan of Chicago, Il and George and his wife Suzanne of Milford, CT;  eight grandchildren, Kristen, Paul, Jeffrey, Lauren, Alexandra, Michael, Connor and Grady; five great grandchildren and one great grandchild yet to be born.
