Vina Lee Speer Tucker Hege, 84, passed away Tuesday November 6th, 2018, surrounded by her family, after a six year courageous fight against cancer.
She was born in Yadkin County, August 9th, 1934 to the late Hubert Henry and Parry Wooten Speer.
The daughter of farmers, she grew up with no electricity or running water. She was the last of her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by her husbands Calvin Tucker and David Hege. Three brothers; infant Rommie Speer, Clarence Speer and Henry Lewis Speer; five sisters, Ruby Creed, Esteen Hoots, Lucy Pilcher, Betty Jane Marion and Christine Grindle.
She’s survived by five children, Sue Lawson (Ken), Ann Whitaker (Billy), Debbie Thacker (Jeff), Ronald “Ron” (Gene) Tucker and James “Greg” Tucker (Marla); step children, Ken, Tony, David and Daisy Hege. Grandchildren, Matthew and Kelly Whitaker, Chad Tucker (Meredith), Justin Bulla, Rodney Jenkins, Amber Merritt (Palmer), Ashley, Adrianna, Amber, Alyssa and Kenzi Tucker; a step grandchild, Jennifer Lawson; Great-Grandchildren, Bella Rose Fowler, Christian McCrae Tucker, Palmer West Merritt, Carson Parry Tucker and Pearl Monroe Tucker.
She spent her life as a farmer, housewife, mother, grandmother and Christian who shared her faith by giving and loving on people. She volunteered with the elderly bringing food and joy to nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Before and after raising children she worked outside the home at R.J. Reynolds and D.D. Beans & Sons.
