Victor “Scatter Perry” T. Matthews was born on December 19, 1955 to the late Artis Boyd Matthews and the late Mildred Long in Morgan County, Alabama. He departed this life on December 2, 2020 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus in Decatur, Alabama.
He attended schools in the Decatur City School System. After graduating from Austin High School where he played football as a wide receiver he matriculated to Troy State University where he also played football.
Victor was gainfully employed as a Mental Health Worker at Lurleen B. Wallace Center and North Alabama Regional Hospital, where he played on the Industrial Basketball and Softball teams. He retired after 35 years of dedicated service.
He accepted Christ at an early age and united with St. Peter M.B. Church. He joined Hartselle M.B. Church where he served as a Deacon under the leadership of the late Reverend Curtis Thomas. After leaving Hartselle M.B. Church he united with God’s Covenant Church.
Victor was a fun-loving, athletic, caring person. He was an avid Alabama “Roll Tide” fan and the “life of the party”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nikki Long; grandparents, Chester Matthews Sr. and Eunice Matthews.
Victor leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted wife, Michelle Denise Young Matthews of Decatur; children, Marrius Jones of Montgomery, AL, Patrice Matthews of Tuscaloosa, AL and Dominique Young of Decatur; grandchildren, Imari F. Jones of Villa Rica, GA, Deashanique D. Blackburn of Tacoma, WA, Julian T. Jones of Muncie, IN, Jordan Lanier of Tuscaloosa, Mekyhi Young and Aaliyah Young of Decatur; great grandson, Zaki Blackburn of Tacoma, WA; brothers, Fabian(Peggy) Matthews, Milton Matthews and Dwight (Lola) Teague all of Decatur; sisters, Charlotte (Rodney) Young, Sonjia Long of Decatur and Towana Willis of Birmingham, AL
