Griswold – Victor Robert Cholewa Sr., 80, Mohegan tribal elder and beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend passed away on June 16, 2021. Victor was born in Plainfield, CT on August 26, 1940 to the late Stanley and Viola (Baker) Cholewa.

Vic was a successful business owner who received his formal education through hard work and grit. He and his first wife, Janice (divorced) established Vic Cholewa Construction in Griswold, CT and two Maine restaurants; The Brass Bucket (Weld) and Vic’s Place (Peru) while enjoying boating and snowmobiling with their family. In earlier days, you’d find him wrenching in his garage on his #73 race car (Waterford and Thompson) or helping a friend or family member.

Victor is survived by his children; Victor Cholewa Jr. (Debbie) and Dannie Cholewa (Terry) of Griswold, Wendy Savoie (Ron) of Westerly, RI; his grandchildren, Kristal, Samantha, Kyle, Sarah, Nathan, Ashley, Victoria and Zachary; great-grandchildren, Colton, Levi and Dean; his girlfriend Barbara Charbonneau; her daughter, Amy Greenleaf (David) and their children, Caitlyn and Grant of Maine; brothers, Stanley “Sonny” Cholewa and Stephen Cholewa; several nieces and nephews and his lifelong friend, Margie Dziengiel, who always looked out for his best interests. Vic is predeceased by his daughter, Victoria Cholewa; 6 brothers and 2 sisters.

The family wishes to thank Vic’s wonderful caregivers, including Catherine and Kim, who understood his ways and made him smile.
