Victor “Mike” Startek, 27 of Toms River, NJ died peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, June 7, 2015, from complications of asthma at Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, NJ. He was born in Toms River, NJ, and was a graduate of Toms River High School North, and later graduated from the French Culinary Institute of Manhattan.
Mike began his culinary career as a Sous Chef in Manhattan and Montauk, eventually establishing himself as an Executive Chef in New York City. Recently he was excited to be undertaking the challenge of opening a new restaurant in the Big Apple. Whether he was tossing a horseshoe or preparing a meal, he was never at a loss to tell a funny story or joke. Throughout his life, Mike profoundly impacted a number of people and shall continue to do so in his passing. He has donated his organs to those in need to allow them to achieve their dreams as he did.
Victor is survived by his loving parents, Deborah and Jose Martinez of Toms River, NJ; his three siblings Melissa Kazmac and her husband Joseph of Bayville, NJ, John Wiegartner of Milltown, NJ and his twin sister Ashley “Juice” Startek of Toms River, NJ; his grandparents Lois and Tom Gehring of GA; his grandfather Fletcher Hallamore of Brick, NJ, Uncle Jeff Hallamore of Toms River, NJ and his favorite uncle Tom Gehring with whom he lived; Many loving cousins, nieces, nephews uncles and extended family of step-siblings. He will be sorely missed by his loving dog Ruby.
He leaves behind numerous close friends including Sean, Adam; his mentor James, and his special girl Diane.
