Vickie Ann Gilbert, age 61, of Rensselaer passed away Monday, April 3, 2017, at Franciscan Health Rensselaer Alternacare. Vickie was born on July 3, 1955 in Huntington, West Virginia to Ezra and Willadean “Bunny” (Perry) Hesson. Vickie has been a resident of Rensselaer for 59 years. On September 28, 1974, in Rensselaer, Indiana, Vickie married John E. “Johnny” Gilbert, Jr.
She was a graduate of Rensselaer High School Class of 1974. Vickie started as a car hop and later worked as a cook/server at Bazz’s Eat & Sip from 1972 to 1980. She was a past member of the Women of the Moose Auxiliary. She was an avid Bingo player and traveled all over to play. She mostly loved being with family.
Vickie is survived by her loving husband, John E. “Johnny” Gilbert, Jr.; a son, Jason (Kim) Gilbert of Medaryville, Indiana; a daughter, Amanda “Mandi” (Matt Ekstrom) Gilbert of Rensselaer, Indiana; one grandson, Jordan Ekstrom; four sisters and three brothers, Debbie (David) Cotner, Ezra “June Bug” Hesson, Jr., Rick ( April) Hesson, Donna (Raymond) Wright, Rhonda ( Tom) Chambers, Kevin (Sonya) Hesson, Karen Hesson, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
