Vesta L. Gordon, 93, of Tunnelton, formerly of Birdscreek, was ushered into heaven from Windy Hill Village on Saturday September 14, 2013 with family by her side. She was born March 25, 1920 in Howesville; a daughter of the late Earl and Ella (Weaver) Pyles. Vesta cooked at the old one room schoolhouse in Birdscreek, where four generations of her family attended, starting in the 40’s and for the senior citizens in the 70’s. She was a lifelong member of the Birdscreek United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters: Betty Lee Metheny of Tunnelton; Anna and Keith Casteel of Bruceton Mills; and Carol E. and Charlie Hyre of Reedsville; one sister Elaine Malcolm of Masontown; one daughter-in-law, Sue Gordon of Newton Falls, OH; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Rucker Gordon in 1969; one son, William Harrison Gordon; one brother, Gerald Edwin Pyles; one sister, Norma Riley; and son-in-law, Donald Duwaine Metheny.
