Wegner of Newton; brother, Ed (and Elizabeth) Wegner of Newton; his nephew, John (and Teri) Wegner of Springfield, Illinois; niece, Beverly (and Steve) Fritz of Omaha, Nebraska; and his 2 great nieces, Meghan Wegner of Springfield, Illinois and Riley Ann Fritz of Omaha, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Weger; and 2 sisters, Gertrude Wegner and Vivianne Malecki.
Vernon graduated from Thorp High School and Kansas State University.
He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960 where he was stationed in Germany.
