Vernon Snead, Sr.
Vernon Snead Sr. peacefully departed this life on Friday, January 29th, 2010. He was born December 30th, 1927 to Deliliah and Harry T. Snead Sr. in Chesapeake, Virginia, (Formally known as Norfolk County, Virginia.)
In Vernons early years, he attended The Cornland School until he was employed at the Naval Shipyard. In 1960, He married Ora V. Snead and they moved to Brooklyn New York. They finally settled on Hopkinson Avenue in Brooklyn, where they were loyal members of the Hopkinson Avenue Block Association.
They took a keen interest in their community as well as the Head Start Program, and were active in the schools where their children attended. They joined the Concord Baptist Church, and Vernon sang in the Mens Choir. Ora joined Vernons cousin, Thelma Snead, serving in the Womens Fellowship.
Vernon was employed with The New York city Department of Health, Division of Pest Control and the Local 32B-J of the Maintenance Union for many years.
Upon returning to Virginia Beach in 1980, Vernon and Ora resided in the Witchduck area. He went to work for the City of Virginia Beach from which he retired. He and Ora joined New Light Full Gospel Baptist Church, where again, Vernon sang in the Mens Choir and Ora sang in the Church Choir.
Vernon was predeceased by his wife, Ora V. Snead, his Mothers, Deliliah Snead and Bertha Snead, his Father, Harry T. Snead Sr., his sons, Vernon G. Snead Jr, and Aaron C. Smith, three sisters, Ethel Sykes, Willie Mae Lawrence, and Virginia Edwards, four brothers, Harry T. Snead Jr., Wilfred T. Snead, Lyman G. Snead and Hubert L. Snead.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter, Susan L.
Vernons love for his family will never be forgotten. He had a heart of gold, and was always willing to share whatever he had with anyone.
