CRAMER, Vernon “Vern” Kalamazoo passed away on July 3, 2013 with his family at his side, Vern was born on August 10, 1933 in Imlay City, Michigan. Vern served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1953 until honorably discharged in 1955. Vern was united in marriage on July 12, 1957 to Lorraine Hoeksema of Imlay City, who survives. Vern was a member of Comstock Christian Reformed Church where he served as both elder and deacon.
He loved his work as counselor, coach and driver’s education teacher to students at Galesburg Augusta Schools for 30 years and at Kalamazoo Valley Community College Counseling Office 17 years after his retirement. He enjoyed coaching both girls and boys softball, baseball, basketball and volleyball. Vern is also survived by his children: Cindy VanderMeer and Carol Felix Brooks all of Kalamazoo and Sue Rick Lewis of Atlanta, Georgia; and grandchildren: Matthew Betsy VanderMeer, Gregory Stephany VanderMeer, Bree Jason Anglemyer, Ariel Don Ashcraft, Matthew Lewis, Michelle Lewis, and Anthony Melanie Lewis; and by 11 great-grand children.
Also surviving him are his mother, Anne Cramer and sisters Henrietta Roger Linders, Bernadine John Dykstra; brothers Walter Muriel, Herman Darlene, Dean Joanne; all of Kalamazoo; John Betty of Attica, MI and Allen Sally of Klamath Falls, Oregon; brothers-in-law Warner Barbara Hoeksema and Lewis Jäger of Imlay City, MI; and a plethora of nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his fathers Albert Cramer and Chris Steigenga.
