Vernon Leeck, age 83, of Algona died on Monday May 4, 2015 at the Algona Good Samaritan Care Center. Vernon Arlo Leeck, the son of Herman and Ida (Bussie) Leeck, was born on December 9, 1931 in Burt, Iowa. He graduated from Burt High School in 1950. Vern served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He then attended T.V. and Radio school in Des Moines.

On September 16, 1956 Vern was united in marriage with Clarine “Cookie” Leithe. He opened Vern’s Radio and T.V. store in Spring Green, Wisconsin. In 1966 he moved back to Iowa. He then owned North Iowa Appliance in Algona from 1975 until 1993. Vern was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Hagg-Turner American Legion Post #90 of Algona.

He loved hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, woodworking, playing cards with family and friends and making sugar at the sugar shack. Left to cherish Vern’s memory is his wife Cookie; a son, Bruce Leeck and his wife Lex of Stratford; a daughter, Brenda Schramm and her husband Mark of Nemaha; grandchildren, Andrew (Deneille) Leeck, Jessica Schramm and Tara Schramm; great grandchildren, Onnah and Easton Leeck; two brothers, Ranney (Verdell) Leek of Algona and LeRoy (Shirley) Leeck of Avoca, WI; and a sister, Marlene (Richard) Frambach of Algona. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Leeck; and brothers, Art, Herb and Toots.
