Vernon L. Nave Sr., 72, of Meredosia, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at his home.
He was born July 17, 1942, in Alton, the son of Thurman and Irene Underwood Nave. He married Brenda Vannatta on Aug. 28, 1992, in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by two daughters and three sons, Kathy Brooks (Phil Brogna) of Colorado Springs, CO, Kristy (Marty) Hollinrake of Falcon, CO, Brian (Misty) Nave of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, and Phillip Nave and Vernon Nave Jr., both of Park Hills, MO; two stepsons, Ron (Lola) Carlin of Bluffs and John Carlin of Concord; twenty-one grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Pat McDannold of Jacksonville, Marilyn (Tom) Floyd and Carolyn Hurst, both of Chambersburg, Bea (Larry ) Stinson of Versailles and Brenda (Steve) Hall of Meredosia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patricia Nave; a granddaughter, Teah Powell; a great-granddaughter, Rylee Ann Renae Vinyard; three sisters, Bonnie VanHyning, Sheron Phillips and Connie Hammond; and a brother, Lee Nave.
Mr. Nave was a Bluffs High School graduate and then began a career in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam War, and had also served in Germany, France and at several bases in the U.S. Following his retirement from the military, he began a second career as an over the road truck driver, working for Tate Cheese and McNay Trucking. He enjoyed working on cars, hunting, fishing and anything outdoors, and for years was the leader of Vern Nave and The Goodtime Band. Vern enjoyed spending time with his friends, but especially loved being with his family.
