Vernon Haynes HIGHLAND, IN – Vernon Haynes, 88 of Highland passed away on November 13, 2018. He was born April 23, 1930 in Chicago, IL.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Catherine Haynes; six children Daniel (Carol) Haynes, Robert Haynes, Julianne (Dennis) Thain, Joel (Rhonda) Haynes, Donald (Peggy) Haynes, and Kevin Haynes; ten grandchildren Laura (Jimmy) Graham, Alan (Laura) Thain, Brian Haynes, Sarah (Andrew) Hall, Zachary (Alexa) Haynes, Max (Lisa) Thain, Rebecca Haynes, Katie (Andrew) Carter, Stephen Hanyzewski, and Paul Haynes; two great grandchildren Elise and Emma Graham and another great grandchild on the way; and his sister Genevieve DuBois.
He was preceded in death by his parents Volney and Pearl Haynes and sister Lois Redman. Following his marriage in January 1951, Vernon was drafted and served 18 months in the military as part of the United States Forces in Austria. He worked for many years for Prudential Insurance and he and Catherine moved to Highland in 1958 when he was transferred from Chicago. In 1984 he joined his son Robert in the opening of Butterfingers, where he faithfully baked bread for decades.
He spent his summers in Paw Paw, Michigan at a family cottage that has been enjoyed for generations. Vernon was a devoted husband, loving father, a tireless worker and made friends wherever he went. He will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives he has touched, especially his little buddy Chamo.
