Hagerstown, MD – Vernon George Davis, 80, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV.

 

He was born on June 7, 1939 in Hagerstown, MD to the late Daniel Benjamin and Wilda Virginia Ashby Davis.

 

Vernon was a 1957 graduate of North Hagerstown High School Hagerstown, MD.

 

He was employed by Pangborn Corp. of Hagerstown, MD for 16 years and previously employed with Manbeck’s Bread Company of Hagerstown, MD.  Most recently he was employed by Thomas’ English Muffin in Frederick, MD.

 

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  He   stood as an honor guard for President Kennedy.

 

He was of the Brethren Faith.

 

He was a member of BPO 378 Elks of Hagerstown, MD; Amvets Post #10 of Hagerstown, MD; North American Rod & Gun Club of Hagerstown, MD; Morris Frock Post #42 American Legion of Hagerstown, MD. 

Vernon received his Eagle Scout badge.

 

Vernon loved being Santa Claus at the Valley Mall for 6 years and also at private parties.

 

He loved being with family and friends.  He still went to breakfast with the guys he worked with at Manbeck’s Bread Company and Pangborn Corp.

 

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Vivian Virginia (Barnhart) Davis; daughter Julie Gehr and her husband Donnie of Big Pool, MD; son Jerry Davis and his wife Dawn of Belton, SC; sister Virginia Davis of Williamsport, MD; grandchildren Ashley Harbaugh and her husband K.G., Alicia Cole and her husband Dryan, Nathan Gehr, Heather Baker and her husband Russell, Megan Davis and Ben Ward, Stephanie Davis and fiance’ Timmy Hinson, and Jennifer Davis; great grandchildren Brynlee Cole, John Baker, Brianna Baker, and Leland Baker.
