Vernon “Box” Louis Ernst, Sr., 82, died on February 18, 2015, after battling a lengthy illness. A native of New Orleans, LA born on January 3, 1933, a former longtime resident of Arabi, and a resident of San Antonio, TX for the past 10 years. Beloved husband of Joan Marie Varisco Ernst for the past 58 years. Preceded in death by his son, Louis Albert Ernst (Deborah). Father of Leslie Triana (Fernando), David Ernst (Becky), and Vernon Ernst, Jr. (Paula). Also survived by eleven grandchildren: Taylor, Brian, Louis, David, Cassi, Austin, Haley, Molly, Trey, Evan, and Amy. Son of the late Louis A. and Gladys W. Ernst. Brother of the late Joseph Albert Ernst, Sr. Brother-in-law of V.J. and Patricia Varisco, Paul and Jill Varisco and the late Joyce Varisco Hammond. Son-in-law of the late Vincent J. and Pauline Isadore Varisco. Draftsman and supervisor at the Amstar (Domino) Sugar Refinery for 32 years. He was an avid golfer, gardener and an excellent cook. He served in the US Navy for four years during the Korean War. Loved life, family, and friends. He will be greatly missed.
