Vernon E. Tighe, 80, of Jacksonville, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

He was born May 16, 1931, in Jacksonville, the son of Edward and Hazel Tighe. He married Ladean Sargent on April 12, 1951, in Jacksonville, and she survives.He is also survived by two sons, Ed Tighe of New York, NY and Dan (Judy) Tighe of Jacksonville; daughter-in-law Kim Tighe of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Savanna Tighe, and Erin, Nolan and Davis Tighe, all of Jacksonville; and great-granddaughter Camryn Chumley of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by four sons, Timothy, Jay, Christopher, and Michael in infancy; daughter-in-law Diane Lipari, wife of Ed Tighe; three brothers; and two sisters.

Mr. Tighe attended Routt High School before serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a long-haul truck driver, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Church of Our Savior and a 4th Degree Member of Knights of Columbus. He was an excellent chef and an avid gardener. Vernon was an accomplished golfer who had played many of the premier courses in the United States, from Winged Foot to Pebble Beach, but he was happiest when playing with his many friends at The Links in Jacksonville.
