Vernon E. Hyle, 86, formerly of Dakota, died Friday, April 19, 2013 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.

Born April 2, 1927 in Wichita, Kansas he was the son of Willard and Ida (Stacks) Hyle. He was a graduate of the Southside grade school and attended Freeport high School. Vernon was a veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII, for 28 years he was a postal clerk in Rockford and Freeport retiring in 1988. On July 14, 1949 he and H. Pauline Niblo were united in marriage at Dakota United Methodist Church.

He was also a longtime member of the American Legion and Freeport Eagles Club. She preceded him in death on November 26, 2011. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rock Grove until its closing and is currently a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freeport. Was an avid supporter of the Dakota Sports and Booster Club.

Surviving are two daughters Karen (David) Ewing of Freeport, Connie (Gregory) Gill of Machesney Park; four sons Gary Hyle of German Valley, Greg Hyle of Rockford, Roger (Kelly) Hyle of Roscoe, Randy Hyle of Roscoe; nine grandchildren Penny (Nate) Peterson, Ted (Katherine) Ewing, Nicholas (Kristy) Gill, Christopher (Amanda), Amanda, Garrett, Adam, Andrew and Emilie Hyle, 6 Great grandchildren Alex, Evan and Tristan Peterson, Brady and Brynn Gill and Demi Hyle; sister LaDonna Koppein; brother-in-law Robert (Janice) Niblo.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; infant daughter; son, Paul; grandson Nathan Hyle.
