Vernon C. Peabody, of Danville, CA passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at his new home

in Scottsdale, AZ. His wife, Janice, daughters, Ashley and Paige and other beloved family and

friends were by his side.

 

Vern was born in 1948 in Modesto, CA, the son of Viola and Vernon Peabody. Vern was

predeceased by his father, mother, brother, Fred, mother-in-law, Jean Bailey, and father-in-law,

Jack Bailey. He is survived by his wife, Janice, daughters, Ashley and Paige, son-in-law, Chris

and three adored grandsons, Tanner, Bennett and Jack.

 

Vern was conscripted into the Army in 1968 and served proudly in the 1st Battalion, 35th

remained a devout patriot and ardent supporter of the men and women of the U.S. military

throughout his life.

 

In 1979 he met Janice Bailey, and they wed in 1982 in Lake Tahoe, CA going on to have two

daughters, Ashley and Paige. A family man throughout the years, his proudest accomplishment

was raising his daughters. His favorite title assumed more recently was one of “Pops” to his

three grandsons.

 

Vern worked at Waddell & Reed as a financial advisor for 40 years and found much fulfillment

throughout his career helping his clients who, more often than not, became dear friends. He

retired in 2020.

 

Vern was an avid sports fan supporting the Oakland A’s and San Francisco 49ers throughout the

years. After sending his youngest daughter, Paige, to college at Texas Christian University, he

became an passionate supporter of the Horned Frogs and was well known for leading the TCU

chants on Saturday Game Days at Tower Grille in Danville, CA.

 

Vern was a lover of music and enjoyed singing along to everything from the classic country

music of Merle Haggard and Patsy Cline to Broadway Showtunes from his favorite musicals like

Fiddler on the Roof.

 

Vern was most well known for his sense-of-humor. He always had a new joke to share and was

frequently quoted as saying, “If you’re not laughing, you’re not living.” In addition to his jokes,

by far his favorite to grow and give to his family, friends and neighbors.

 

Vern used to say whenever the opportunity for a toast arose, “Here’s to us and all those like us.”
