Vernon C. “Cliff” King, 79, of Meredosia, died Aug. 11, 2014, at his home.

He was born March 3, 1935, in Winchester, the son of Vernon A. and Mildred Cumby King.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Doris Charles; two daughters and six sons, Debbie Webber and Randy (Shirley) King, both of Jacksonville, Reggie (Vera) King of Arizona, Ray (Julie) King of Texas, Kevin Peters of California, Dezra King of Florida, Larry (Pam) Charles of Meredosia, and Bobby (Mary) Charles of Rushville; sixteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one sister, Jane (Bud) Pressey of Winchester; and one brother, Lloyd (Regina) King of Texas. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Schaeffer; a great grandson, Collin White; two brothers, Harold and Richard King; and a sister, Madeline Batley.

Mr. King was a 1953 graduate of Winchester High School. He had worked for Howard’s Cleaners in Jacksonville, and later worked later at Jacksonville State Hospital. Cliff enjoyed bowling, traveling, and going to casinos. He especially loved spending time with his family.
