Vernie R. Widener Jr., 90, of Pendleton, passed away on January 4, 2015 at Prairie Lakes Health Campus- Legacy in Noblesville. He was born on November 26, 1924 in Pendleton, and until recently spent his retirement years wintering in Florida with his beloved wife Joan.
Vernie graduated from Pendleton High School, and retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors after over 30 years.
Vernie spent most of his life farming during the day and working at the factory at night. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, bowling, and playing softball, which he played for Bethel United Methodist Church in his younger years.
Vernie is survived by his 4 daughters, Pam (Ray) Garner, Verna (Thom) Miller, Melinda (Skip) Maupin, and Anne (Jay) Purkey. He also had 9 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife of 68 years, Joan L. Widener, his mother, Elva Widener, and his father, Vernie Widener, Sr.
