Verner Mahon Roberts

July 6, 1924 ~ September 16, 2013

Verner Mahon Roberts, 89, a fourth-generation Floridian, passed away in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., on September 16, 2013.  She was a resident of Mary Esther.

Verner Elizabeth Mahon was born on July 6, 1924, into the Irish Catholic family of Charles Robert and Mary Louise Lovett Mahon in Apalachicola, Fla.  Verner was baptized at St.

In 1950, the young family relocated to Fort Walton Beach.  Verner became the office nurse for Dr. Henry C. White of White-Wilson Clinic and Hospital.  She remained with Dr. White for over three decades until his death.  She was regarded as a no-nonsense nurse who loved her patients but brooked no foolishness.  In fact, Dr. Joe Wilson lovingly referred to her as “Sgt. Roberts.”

Verner was a devout Catholic and member of St.

We will always carry in our hearts the legacy that she leaves behind for us.  Job well done, “Sgt. Roberts”-you’ve earned your rest.  May the road rise to meet you and May God hold you in the palm of his hands.
