Verne Marvin Mosier, 87, of Deming passed away April 27, 2014.

Marvin was born on March 31, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri to parents Vern and Vera Mosier. Once he became of age in 1943, World War II was raging. Marvin decided he would proudly serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Army at just 17. Most of his defense training was done at the old Deming Air field in 1944. His plan was to finish out flight navigator training, but his quantitative skills soon led him into the school of “cryptography”, a science of “code breaking”. Then in early 1945, he and his unit shipped out and sailed for Japan.

He and his unit had been given instructions to be part of a landing force to invade the Japanese peninsula. When America dropped the atomic bombs in Japan, the surrender soon followed, and the war came to an abrupt end. He and his unit then became part of a U.S. led occupying force in Japan. After proudly serving his country, Marvin attended New Mexico State University where he obtained a degree in business. On Christmas Eve, Marvin married Virginia P. “Virgie” Moseley in Deming, NM and they spent over 50 years together.

For over 30 years, he worked as Parts Manager at Brem Chevrolet in Deming and Sanders Chevrolet in Lovington. Upon his retirement, Marvin worked with his son at Barker Oil in Deming for many years. He was a longtime member of the 9th Street Church of Christ and also attended services at the local Methodist Church. He was a longtime member of the Deming and Lovington Lions Clubs and served as President and other committee positions.

Survivors include Danny and Janice Mosier, Linda and Alan Whitebread, Doug and Patricia Mosier, Leslie and Rodney Duke, Chris and Jewely Mosier, Mike and Nancy Mosier, Sissy and Pete Wong, Wayne Mosier, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Virgie and sister Phyllis Dickey.
