Prospect – Verne H. “Chip” Aldrich, Jr., age 58, of Prospect, died Saturday March 12, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the husband of Sharon (Steeves) Aldrich. Chip was born September 5, 1957 in Bridgeport, son of Lorraine (Donahoe) Aldrich of Shelton and the late Verne H. Aldrich, Sr. Having a gift of helping students with all types of disabilities, he worked as a special education teacher at Naugatuck High School and within the Naugatuck school system for over two decades.
Chip was a truly loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, and uncle. He enthusiastically participated in both of his sons’ activities, especially sports, whether it was as a parent or a coach. He served as a coach with the Naugatuck Little League and Little Pal programs, the Naugatuck and Prospect Soccer Leagues and the Girls’ Basketball team at City Hill Middle School. He was also actively involved in his community, having volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Shelter, the Connecticut Special Olympics, and tutored students outside of school. He was also an Assistant Scoutmaster for Prospect Boy Scouts Troop 258. He and his wife were very involved in Maple Hill Elementary and Long River Middle School’s P.T.O. He enjoyed walking the family dog, Ruby, frequent trips to Dunkin Donuts, and being a man of many laughs, both giving and receiving them.
