Obituary of Vernal Vincent Cronk
Vern V. Cronk – (Vernal) V. Cronk, of Thomas Township, was born June 11, 1923 in Flint MI son of John F. Cronk and Gladys (Bell) Cronk (both deceased). He was one of seven children: John, Mary Helen, Richard, Robert, Don, and David Cronk. Vern graduated from Saginaw High School in 1941. He held various positions in Saginaw, including 20 years at Lufkin Rule in research and development, as well as 20 years at Baker Perkins, retiring as a Sales Manager.
He married his high school sweetheart Donna Lou Stoddard at Sacred Heart Church, Saginaw MI on June 21, 1947. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 65 1/2 years together. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2012.
Vern is survived by his children: John P. Cronk, Seattle WA, Christine (Brent) Patton, Wyoming MI, Joel F. Cronk, Saginaw, MI, Ruth Ann Rappley, Saginaw MI. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Matthew (Amber) Cronk, Jeff (Nancy) Patton, Jay (Mary) Patton, David (Amanda) Patton, Kellie (Charles) Malacos, Joel Cronk II and Jon Cronk and his four great grandchildren: Evan Cronk, Charles Malacos Jr., Jameson Malacos and Benjamin and Zachary Patton. He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Annabelle Cronk, along with many nieces and nephews.
Vern always enjoyed working with machinery and held 13 United States Patents. He was an excellent carpenter, and completely remodeled his first home. He was a gifted artist who did various projects in the Saginaw area, including: designing the Zilwaukee Township Seal, illustrating a Mosquito Control Coloring Book, and creating signs for The United Way. He was well known for his cartooning ability, and over the years filled hundreds of requests for personalized cards and sketches. He had a great sense of humor, and could entertain everyone with the way he told a joke. Vern and his wife enjoyed numerous motor trips across the United States. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Saginaw MI.
