Verna L. (Shelton) Gorbett, of Medora, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 9, 2021, at Hoosier Christian village with her family by her side. She was 85 years old.

Verna entered this life in Shelton Holler of Jackson County on July 7, 1936. She was the eighth child born of the loving parents, Frank, and Sara (Jones) Shelton. She spent her lifetime in Jackson County. On November 7, 1953, in Freetown, Indiana she was united in marriage to Grant Gelotes Sherman “Joe” Gorbett. From this union they were blessed with three children, Richard, Saundra, and James. Joe preceded Verna on April 18, 1967.

Verna was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved to go fishing, work in her garden, go on long walks, and taking care of her family. She was of the Baptist Faith.  She was a former employee of Medora Community Schools, and of the Medora Plastics Factory.

Surviving to cherish her memories are her children, Richard Gorbett of Medora, Saundra Sells and her husband Mark of Brownstown, and Jimmy Gorbett and his wife Faith of Medora, and a grandson, Stephen Gorbett of Medora.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three stepsons, Kenny Gorbett, Marvin Gorbett, and Leon Gorbett, sisters, Daisy Elliott, Mary Purvis, and May Johnson, and brothers James Shelton, Benny Shelton, Clayton Shelton, and Gene Shelton.
