Verlin Watson Miller, 95, Deming resident passed away in Yuma, AZ, from a stroke on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 10 o’clock in the morning at Mountain View Cemetery. Pastor Darrell Witmer will officiate. Due to the pandemic of covid-19 masks are required and social distancing will apply.
Born to parents Myra (Shepherd) and William Roy Miller on December 3, 1925, near Indianapolis, IN, he grew up mostly in Randolph County. He was drafted into the United States Army and served in the infantry in France and Germany and fought in the Colmar Pocket in January 1945. Following WW II, he also served in Korea during the Korean War. He spent a majority of his work life as an over the road driver and also jointly owned a trucking company Lil Leasing with his wife, Lillian, who preceded him in death. They spent their retirement years joyfully meeting new friends as they continued to travel the country in their various motor homes. Verlin was a proud 60 year plus member of Anthony Lodge 171 F & AM, Albany, IN and York Rite, Anderson, IN. He and Lillian also belonged to a variety of motor home clubs.
Survivors include his children, Myra (Terence) Schull, Bill (Penny) Howell and Wayne Howell; 2 grandsons, Michael (Carly) Schull and Chris Howell; and a brother, Roger (Cloyce) Miller.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents and wife were 4 brothers, Marvin, Charles, Edwin, and William Howard; 2 sisters, Dorothy Miller and Lillie Mae Hess; as well as a grandson, Nick Howell.
