Mr. Verlin C. “Vern” Dorrier, 92, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side on Monday, Dec. 14, 2015 at 7:45 am following a brief illness.
He was born in Elkhart on Feb. 12, 1923 to the late William and Edna (Worth) Dorrier, and later married Winifred J. “Winnie” Forrest on July 3, 1946 in Elkhart. She survives at home.
Also surviving is his daughter Nancy (Michael) McIntire of Bristol and his son Kenneth (Mary) Dorrier of Elkhart. He is preceded by his sister Irene Walters and his brothers Lawrence, Vaughn, Richard, Ralph, Ernest, Foster and Wilbur Dorrier.
Vern served in the US Marine Corps during WWII in the Asiatic – Pacific Theater, then he worked with C.G. Conn of Elkhart for 32 years; lastly he became the maintenance supervisor at Baugo Community Schools.
He was an avid gardener and fisherman who’s multi-talented skills enabled him to fix just about anything. He will be best remembered for his impeccable punctuality, the fact that he was always busy, and for his family “fishin’ hole” that he would return to year after year for 60 years.
