VerDene Allen Whittier returned to her loving Father in Heaven on August 25, 2021 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 21,1942, to her loving parents A. LeRoy Allen and Glenna Pledger Allen. She grew up on the family dairy farm in Taylor, Utah, where she had fond memories. One of her favorite memories happened on the lane taking the cows to the pasture where she met her eternal friend and husband Jay Arthur Whittier. On June 18,1959 they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.

Together they have 7 children, Allen (Jodi) Whittier, Douglas (Shaunna) Whittier, Julie (Doug) Oxborrow, Troy (Tara) Whittier, baby Joy Whittier (deceased) Paul (Kelly) Whittier, Sarah (Chris) Kotter. She has 27 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren with one on  the way.  VerDene loved her family dearly, spending time with them was her most favorite thing to do. VerDene and Jay had recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. They loved traveling, camping, and serving together.

She is survived by her husband Jay and her wonderful posterity. she was a great sister which included her brothers Vaughn LeRoy Allen (deceased), Scott Allen (Judy) and sisters LeAnn Casterline (Don) and  Kaylene Spinden (Gerry, deceased).

She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter – Day Saints. She passionately served in the church since the age of twelve and up until the day she passed away. She was proud and honored of  that accomplishment.  She served in every area of the church including Ward and Stake Relief Society President, temple worker, Young Women’s and Scouts . VerDene and Jay happily served a mission at Martin’s Cove in Wyoming for 18 months.

VerDene  was the heart and soul of her family, loving all of them unconditionally. She loved having family parties, family camping trips, and attending every special occasion or milestone. Christmas time was special at her home, which included dressing up as “Grandma Claus.”

Some of VerDene’s favorite things  were going to plays, concerts, musicals, sewing,  playing games, reading scriptures, church history, and playing the piano. She also enjoyed going to water aerobics, and traveling with her Good Sam’s Club. She treasured her friendships and was compassionate to those around her.
