The sun rose for Vera Scrivens Greer on October 9, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was born to Wilbert Scrivens and Vera Jackson Scrivens. At a very young age, the family moved to Charleston, West Virginia. Throughout her life, Vera developed enduring friendships beginning at a young age because of her warm heart and engaging spirit. The neighborhood and Boyd Elementary School were the places where she began lifelong friendships with friend/sisters Brenda Turner Means and Gloria Fuller Patterson. Charleston High School in Charleston, West Virginia prompted Vera’s career goal to become an educator. Being an organized and goal oriented person, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from West Virginia State College (now University). After graduating from WV State, Vera moved to New Jersey with some of her college friends and began her teaching career at New Jersey Job Corps.
