Vera Belle Hedrick Sampson, daughter of James and Lula Shacklett Hedrick, was born October 15, 1910 in Marceline, Missouri. She passed away Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Osceola Nursing and Rehab Center in Osceola, Iowa at the age of ninety-seven.
Vera graduated from Marceline High School in Marceline, Missouri with the class of 1929.
On April 1, 1933 Vera was united in marriage with Duane Arnold Sampson in Oskaloosa, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Betty Lou, Dean Arnold, Delores, and Deloma.
In early years Vera was employed as a sales clerk at Penney’s and Montgomery Ward stores. Most of her life she spent being a homemaker, caring for her husband and children.
She was active in many clubs and organizations and held offices in several of them.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Delores (Dody) De Vries of Pella, Iowa, Deloma (Sid) Shell of Murray, Iowa; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Norene James of Chariton, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane in 2000; her infant daughter, Betty Lou, and her son, Dean Arnold; one great-granddaughter; her brother, Eldon Hedrick; and her son-in-law, Bernie De Vries.
Vera will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed by all those who loved her.
