Vera Marie Sindorf Maxwell, 92, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, January 11, 2017, in Westmoreland Manor. She was born on December 8, 1924, a daughter of the late Paul Hellman and Mildred Tornblom Hellman. Vera was a charter member and very devoted to St. Matthias Lutheran Church, Greenbsurg where she was a former council member and Sunday school teacher. Also, Vera wrote an article for the St. Matthias monthly newsletter “The View”. She knew the Bible well and led a Bible study group in her home. She had worked as a secretary for Coal Operators Insurance Company, now known as Old Republic Insurance Company and during WW II she worked for Westinghouse. Vera was a past vice president of Western Pennsylvania Synodical Unit. She was also an avid reader. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her first husband, Richard Franklin Sindorf and her second husband, James G. Maxwell. Vera is survived by her 2 children, Richard D. Sindorf (Lee) of Pittsburgh and Susan M. Spillar (William) of Greensburg; 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson; 2 sisters, Dolores Fruth of Zelienople and Ruth Lee Porter of Irwin; also, a number of nieces and nephews.
