Vera M. Rabbage, age 99 of Midland died Saturday, January 5, 2013, at her residence. The daughter of the late John and Anna (Owens) Fisher was born in Midland County on April 3, 1913, and was educated in Midland and Flint.

Vera married Arthur Rabbage in October of 1950 in Midland. In 1951 Vera and Art co-founded Art’s Lawnmower Service then retired and sold the business in 1962. Vera was actively involved in the Midland Community. In 1970, she co-founded Country Cousins senior group, serving as co-chairperson for 10 years and secretary for 8 years. She received the Midland County Council on Aging service award in 1971 for outstanding service and leadership to Midland County senior citizens. Art and Vera were named volunteers of the year by the Kiwanis Club and the Midland County Council on Aging in 1980. Vera served on the founding board of the Happy Diners. She was a member of Poseyville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Martha Circle. She was also a member of Chippewa Nature Center, a life member of Midland County Historical Society, King’s Daughter’s Home, and Circle of Friends. Vera was one of the first residents of Riverside Place and welcomed many new residents and was very active with activities at Riverside.

Mrs. Rabbage is survived by her son, Robert (Rosemary) Harger of Rockville, Maryland; daughters, Nancy Kreutz of Denver, Colorado, Patricia Meaton of Lansing; daughter-in-law, Helen Rabbage of Midland; 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by nephews: Bill (Betty) Fisher, Jim (Jeri) Fisher, and Bud (Maryann) Fisher.

In addition to her husband, Art who died December 12, 1986; and her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Ronald Rabbage; son-in-law, Melvin Meaton; daughter-in-law, Janet Harger; and brothers, Ralph, Carl, and Earl Fisher.
