ROSS, VERA JOSEPHINE, 94, peacefully passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012 at the Iliff Nusing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunn Loring, Virginia. She was born July 27th, 1918 in Worcester, Massachusetts, to Mr. and Mrs. Giavonni Ripani. Vera was raised in New Haven, Connecticut, but lived more than 65 years in Norwich. In addition to being a devoted mother, she held a number of jobs, most notably as a seamstress at John Meyers of Norwich. Vera was a loquacious person with a friendly, upbeat personality. She was very loving and kind and made many lasting friendships.
Vera loved to travel and did so extensively; her favorite trips were to Italy and to England. She also enjoyed taking cruise vacations and made more than 20 cruises, mostly to the Caribbean. In addition, she enjoyed the food, entertainment, and gambling at the casinos near Norwich; she especially liked playing bingo.
She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Raymond, who died in Orlando, Florida, in early 2011 and her daughter, Donna R. Stoddard, of Brea, California, in 1998. Her surviving children are Richard A. Ross of McLean, Virginia, and Raymond F. Ross Jr. of Orlando, Florida. Vera also was the grandmother of six children and the great grandmother of two children.
