Venita R. Aten, 80 of Caldwell, went to be with her Heavenly Father Tuesday, March 9, 2010.

Venita was born November 25, 1929 in Caldwell, the youngest of six children of Ralph and Nora Navis. She was raised and educated in Caldwell. Upon graduating from Caldwell High School, Venita moved to Portland, Oregon to work for Mountain Bell. It was there that she had her first daughter, Ginger, on May 2, 1950. Venita transferred with Mountain Bell back to Caldwell in 1955. Four years later she met Philip Aten and they were married on January 2, 1960.

Venita took an early retirement from Mountain Bell in 1985. It wasn’t long before she felt she had too much time on her hands so she purchased “The Lunchbox” on Main Street in Caldwell. Venita loved to cook and never once consulted a recipe. She made her own food her own way and it was fantastic! Later Venita took over the snack bar at M&W Market in Caldwell.

Venita was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to walk, garden and go for coffee and to the movies with her daughters. Venita was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Venita is survived by her husband, Philip Aten; three daughters, Ginger Dowen, Kerri Cox and Vicki (Dave) Lancaster; brother, Loris Navis; sister, Twila Gusman; and numerous grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lynda Mallon; three sisters, June Navis, Neva Madden and Lavonne Altig; and her parents.

Grandma, we will cherish forever memories of our times with you and your awesome love! Your Grandkids
