DOLLAR, VELT KING, age 92, of Northport, AL, formerly of Center Point, died Wednesday, January 26, 2011. He was born July 22nd, 1918 in Lineville, AL in Clay County to Monroe Grant and Pearlie Price Dollar. He was a caring father, grandfather and friend. Kind hearted and generous, he was a long time member of the Center Point United Methodist Church, he retired from the US Postal Service in 1974 after 28 years of employment. He served in the Army during WWII in the 169th Infantry and participated in the Asian-Pacific conflict where he received two battle stars in the Solomon Islands Campaign. Returning to the states in 1945, he was an MP at Ft. Rucker before the war ended. Six weeks after his discharge he married his sweetheart, Jimmie M. Halpin, on November 16, 1945. Velt and Jimmie provided a loving and nurturing home for their four children. He was preceded in death by his death by his wife of 56 years, Jimmie; and his parents. The survivors who honor and cherish his memory are: Beverley (Gerald) Key and Dan (Courtney) Dollar of Trussville; Jan (LeGrand) Hutchison of Northport; and Pat Lyles (Rick Trescott) of Blountsville. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Ryan (Kelly) Key, Chad (Christi) Key and Jared Key; Elisabeth D. Strada, Andrew Dollar and Grant Dollar; Matt (Robyn) Hutchison, Garrett (Rhada) Hutchison, Natalie (Brent) Barnes, Rachel (Stephen) NeSmith, Lance (Katie) Hutchison. Great-grandchildren are: Colton Key and Lindsey Key; Jacob, Nicholas and Benjamin Hutchison; Jackson and Sam Barnes; Hannah NeSmith; sister, Ervis Hester and other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
