Velma Jane Thurgood Manning, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 28, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 10, 1923, to Delbert and Alice Verona Thurgood, in West Point, and lived on the same street, but different homes all her life. She was educated in the Davis County schools.
Velma married Elmer Floyd Manning November 5, 1941, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married 66 years, only to be separated with his passing on December 10, 2007.
She enjoyed her family, golf, camping, boating, crocheting, travel, and bingo. She worked in the Davis County School lunch program, Sperry Rand and retired from IRS. After retirement they wintered in Saint George/Mesquite.
Velma was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and enjoyed Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
She is survived by her children, Gary (Kathy) Manning West Point, Laraine (Mark) Blanch Ivins, Dee (Donna) Manning West Point; 10 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sister, Lena Christensen and several nieces and nephews.
Velma was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Dale and Maurice Thurgood, grandchildren Chase, Brody, and Michela Blanch.
