Those left to honor Velma’s memory are her sister, Wilma R. Rorabaugh of Newton, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Victor E. Adamson in 1968; her 3 brothers, Lauren, Wayne, and Merril Murphy; and 2 sisters, Cleora Woods and Ilah Coil.

Velma graduated from Newton High School in 1926. After graduation she worked at the Cross and Hamil Law Firm in Newton. She later was a proofreader for the Wallace Farmer Magazine in Des Moines for many years.

She served as the secretary for the Typographical Union until the age of 93. She traveled across the country to attend National Meetings for the Union.
