Velma Joyce Henry, 92, of Rensselaer passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Franciscan Health in Rensselaer. Velma was born in South Lyon, Michigan on March 16, 1926, the daughter of the late Newman A. and Geneva (Renwick) Griswold.

She was raised in South Lyon, graduating from South Lyon High School with the class of 1943. Velma continued her education at the Ann Arbor Business School. Her marriage was in South Lyon on May 1, 1948, to Howard Walter Henry. Velma and Howard later moved to Jasper County, settling in Barkley Township in 1969. Velma left the farm and moved into Rensselaer in 1997. Velma was a homemaker, helping Howard on the farm and raising their children. She was an active member for many years of the Barkley Twilight Home Ec Club. Velma was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rensselaer where she was a member of the United Methodist Women’s group. Velma will be dearly missed by her family.

Surviving are six children, Joan Girard of Remington, IN, Barbara (Steven) Robinson and Marie (Randy) DeWees both of Rensselaer, IN, David (Becky) Henry of Hillsdale, IN, Daniel (companion Lisa Malone) Henry of Wolcott, IN and Keith (Barbara) Henry of Guyman, OK; eleven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a step-brother, Norman Smith of South Lyon, MI. In addition to her parents Velma was preceded in death by her husband Howard who passed away on June 9, 2000, a daughter, three sisters and two brothers.
