Velma A. Keerbs, 86 of Mallard died January 17, 2015 at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. Velma Arlene Keerbs, the daughter of Willard and Lillian Troug Keerbs was born March 20, 1928 at the family farm in Mallard ( Great Oak Township). She was brought to faith in Holy Baptism at Trinity Lutheran Church (LCMS) Mallard, IA. She was raised and educated in Mallard and was a Braille worker in the United States Library of Congress. She spent hours transposing typed Sunday School lessons into Braille.

Velma loved growing flowers and spent many years placing them on the Altar at church. She raised geese for many years, up to 1000 per summer. During winter months, she made quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Velma was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and her brother Vernard. She is survived by her sister Vivian, sister-in-law Ann Keerbs and Vernard’s two children Mark and Andrea Keerbs.
