Veletta V. Walker McConnell, better known to family and friends as “Nita,” a native of Lower Peach Tree, a former resident of Mt. Vernon for more than 30 years and recently relocated to Thomasville, answered the Master’s call on Sept. 9, 2020 while at Spring Hill Memorial Hospital in Mobile.
Born on March 22, 1952 to George Walker and Addie McDuffie Walker, she was 68 years of age.
Veletta enjoyed singing and spending time with her family; while living in Mt. Vernon she was member of the William Chapel Baptist Church. Upon relocating to Thomasville, she united with New Greater First Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Carlton L. Hogue.
Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, Sylvester “Toot” McConnell.
Left to cherish her memories are two daughters, Klashone (Rick) Perine and Klashette (Terry) Boykin, both of Jackson; four grandchildren, Jamauze McConnell of Las Vegas, Nev., Juanita Perine of State Line, Miss., and Tersha Boykin and Kayla Perine, both of Jackson; and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Brenda (Willie Sr.) Lovett of Axis; one brother, George Walker Jr. of Rockford, Ill.; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Whisenhunt and Frena Flott Henderson, both of Mt. Vernon; brother-in-law, Melvin McConnell of Mt. Vernon; two aunts, Emma Mertis Stabler of Cleveland, Ohio and Sylvia Walker of Mobile; three uncles, David McDuffie of Cleveland, Ohio, Noble Walker of Mobile and Harry (Barbara) Walker of San Bernardo, Calif.; with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, Cora Walker and Patricia Bettis.
