Velera L. Maddox Hanna, 88, of Anderson, passed away on July 15, 2021, at her home. She was born on March 15, 1933, in Clay City, Indiana to Paul and Elizabeth (Greenwood) Rentschler.
For years, Velera worked as a private duty nurse and enjoyed writing poetry. She also enjoyed music and singing with her sisters and family.
She moved to Lakland, Florida in 1978 and was a member of Carpenter’s Home Church and Victory Church. Velera was a faithful choir member and part of the intercessory prayer team.
In 2006, Velera returned to Anderson and was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church. She loved her church family and pastors.
On March 24, 1950, Velera married Cecil Maddox who preceded her in death on July 16, 1977. In 1982 she married Tom Hanna, who preceded her in death on December 4, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sons, Ronald Maddox and Anthony “Tony” Maddox, her sisters, Sandra Geiger and Enola Gardner, and her brothers, Loren Rentschler and Don Rentschler.
Velera is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Susan Maddox, Anderson, and Sharon and Tommy Harris, Santiago, Dominican Republic; her eight grandchildren, her 18 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Carol Moore, Marion, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
