Velda M. Burger, 88, of Jacksonville, died Monday, July 31, 2017, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.
She was born July 25, 1929, in Dwight, the daughter of Andrew and Lizzie Sorensen Anderson. She married Paul Burger on May 24, 1952, in Dwight, and he preceded her in death on Apr. 11, 1973.
She is survived by her son, William “Bill” (Michele) Burger of Kansas City, MO; her daughter-in-law, Sharon Burger of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Andrew “Andy” (Nadia) Burger of Clinton, IA, and Amy (Zach) Kording of Jacksonville; and three great grandchildren, Isabella Burger, and Benjamin and Erin Kording. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; one son, Robert “Bob” Burger; two sisters, Hazel Adair and Florence Hansen; and three brothers, Leroy, Delbert (surviving wife Dorothy of Dwight), and Russell Anderson.
Mrs. Burger was a graduate of Dwight High School. She worked for Cater-Vend in Jacksonville for 15 years as a Food Service Manager, retiring in 1989. Velda attended Centenary United Methodist Church. She was known for her cooking skills, especially her sugar cookies, and enjoyed time spent with her family.
