Veda Faye Shrum Duncan, born February 10, 1921, passed away on March 21, 2012 in Scottsdale at the age of 91. She was the 5th of 8 children born to Maggie and Monroe Shrum in Fredericktown, Missouri. Before becoming a full time homemaker, (except when she would find temporary work while saving for something big), she was a secretary in St. Louis, Missouri. She married George Duncan in 1947 and over their 65 years of marriage, lived in St. Louis, MO, Cary, IL, Lacrosse, WI and moved to Scottsdale in 1989. Veda was a kind, loving and a loyal woman who dedicated her life to her husband, children and grandchildren until Alzheimer’s disease stripped her of everything that she held so dear. She was admired and adored by all who knew her and although we have lost her piece by piece, we will cherish her in our hearts forever. She is survived by her husband, George; her two children, Mark Duncan (Sue) and Pam Gloyd (Mike); grandchildren, Jody Duncan, Jeff Duncan (Lauren), Kelly Duncan, Matt Gloyd (Angie), and Andrea Gloyd. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Madilyn and Colton Gloyd. Although we have already mourned her sweet personality, (she did still manage to give us a wink and an “I love you” once in a while), we will certainly miss her cute little face. Our family would like to thank Mike and Elena Lugoj, who own and operate A Happy Place Assistant Living Home in Phoenix, for their exceptional care of our most precious loved one over the past three years. Additional thanks goes to Hospice of the Valley for their kindness and support.
