Vauna Oliason

1930 ~ 2015

Vauna M. Oliason (formerly Vauna Parks) passed away peacefully Thursday, April 30, 2015, just shy of her 85th birthday. At the time she was living at Spring Creek Assisted Living Center in Eagle, Idaho.

Born Vauna May Pruett on May 31, 1930 in Gooding, Idaho, Vauna was a lifetime teacher. She was raised and went to school in King Hill, Idaho, and then attended college at the Southern Idaho College of Education at Albion and the University of Idaho.

Vauna began her teaching career in 1950 as a fifth grade teacher in American Falls, Idaho. But most of her teaching career was spent in the Meridian School District teaching junior high math and social studies. She retired in 1986.

Vauna’s parents were Oscar Pruett and Elva (Hobdey) Pruett. They both predeceased her. Vauna was married twice during her life: first to Raymond A. Parks in 1952, and later to Kenneth E. Oliason in 1980. Both of her husbands also predeceased her.

After her mother died, Vauna raised her younger sister, Elaine, as her daughter from the age of six. Elaine and her husband, Rich Smith, live in Pocatello, Idaho. Vauna considered Rich and Elaine’s children her own grandchildren, and they are Camille (Greg) Griffin, of Hartford CT; Kirk (Linda) Smith of Pocatello, Idaho; and Brenda Smith (Andrew Barfield) of Eden, Utah. Among them, the grandkids gave Vauna six great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Vauna also is survived by her two stepchildren from her second marriage, Pam Catt-Oliason and Tarl Oliason, and two lifelong friends, Ilene Coulter and Chris Charlton.

The family requests that remembrances in Vauna’s name be made to the Idaho Botanical Gardens, the Idaho Humanities Council, or the Idaho Youth Ranch.
