“Well done good and faithful servant!” – from the book of Matthew

Vasiliki Velis Reeks, lovingly called “Vasho” by her family and friends, was born in Trechlos Kalavryton, Greece on February 25, 1951. She passed away peacefully at her home in Dallas, Texas, on September 15, 2014, surrounded by her loving family and devoted friends.

Vasho was diagnosed with an aggressive gastric cancer in the Spring of 2014, and despite treatment, she has left us too soon. She was a much beloved wife, sister, aunt, cousin, caregiver, and friend. Our hearts are broken, and we shall miss her beyond measure.

Vasho came to the United States in 1966. When she landed in Dallas and walked out into the airport to greet family, the waiting party included the man she would come to love for the rest of her life, Jim Reeks.

James W. “Jim” Reeks and Vasho were married on December 27, 1970. Their marriage was blessed by the birth of their daughter, Sarah, and a decade later, by their son Adam. After Sarah and Scott Kauffman married and their son Luke was born, Vasho’s role as a delighted Yia Yia gave her special joy. Her heart expanded with even more love when Adam and Fanitsa married last year.

Vasho grew up with the warmth and friendship of close siblings. In addition to her husband, her children, and their families, mourning her loss and surviving her are her brother Demetrios Velis and his wife Andriana, of Dallas; her sister Anteope Velis Sideris and her husband Basil, of Dallas; and her sister Kathy Velis Kotsopodis and her husband Panagiotis, of Plano.

It would be impossible to list all of the nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and host of friends who are all family to Vasho. Beloved Thia Vasho loved her nieces, nephews, and numerous “surrogate” children. They loved having sleepovers and pancake breakfasts. She created a loving haven and lifelong memoires.
