Vance Edward Funderburk, 100, of Lake Como, NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2016. He was born on January 10, 1916 to Walter Haley and Edna Knotts of Monroe, NC. At the age of 6, he was adopted by Ellison and Elizabeth Funderburk and joined their family as the youngest of 11 children.

 Vance married Pearl Parrott of Darlington, SC in 1940. They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary in December 2015. To this union were born two daughters, LaMaris and Brenda.

 During WWII, he worked in the shipyards. He later moved to New Jersey, where he worked with his sister, Alice, at The Savoy in Asbury Park, NJ.  Subsequently, he purchased The Redwood Inn and was of owner of the iconic Neptune landmark for the next 50 years, where many knew him as “Uncle Vance”. In 1996, he and his wife retired to Darlington, SC.

 Vance was a devoted family man and a cherished father figure to many. He will be remembered for his kind and generous spirit. An avid hunter, he would regale his friends and family with stories of dogs, “coons” and bears. He loved being outdoors and could regularly be found tending to his garden, chickens, and dogs, dogs, dogs!

 Vance was predeceased by his daughter, LaMaris See Tai. He leaves to mourn his loss and reflect on his exemplary life his loving wife, Pearl; devoted daughter, Brenda Scott (Raymond) and “son”, William Showell; son-in-law, Ronald See Tai; grandchildren, Tara See Tai, Pier Phillips (William), Tracey Scott, Sabra Scott (Earl), Michael Scott, Jade See Tai; 10 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
