V. Jay Wadman, known as “A Builder of Men”, a man of integrity, creative leadership and a guiding force in the community was called home January 5, 2013. He was born in Brigham City on March 12, 1927 a son of Laura Harris Parkinson and Benjamin Arthur Wadman. He attended Box Elder High and Weber State College.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944. He met June Christensen while on leave in Ogden. They were married February 16, 1945. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1947. He continued his service in the Navy, on Guam during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1948.
He was a very devoted member of the LDS Church and served as a Bishop, High counselor and member of the Pleasant View Stake Presidency. Jay was a disciple of Christ in action, word and deed.
He began Wadman Construction Company in 1951. He has built thousands of buildings throughout the Western United States and including many of them in Weber County. He always had a dream of building an LDS Temple; Wadman Corp. is currently building the Payson LDS Temple.
He served in many civic organizations and left a legacy of giving in our community. He received many awards for his service and charitable giving, including a Distinguished Service Award at the BYU College of Life Sciences. He had a love for people, especially the Native American Indians. He served for many years as a chairman of American Indian Services, an organization which provides thousands of scholarships to Native American Indians.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters; also two sons, Blaine and Grant and a son-in-law, Don White.
He is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, June; children, Rick (Randolyn) Wadman, Larry (Maree) Wadman, David (Ronda) Wadman and Trudi White; 26 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren.
He was a man with a great legacy who will be sorely missed.
