Ursula Tomika Daffin-Sims was born Jan. 16, 1970 in Jackson to the late Hosie Lee Jones and Joann Daffin. Tomika or “Meka” as many lovingly called her, found rest on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, at the University Medical Center in Mobile. 

A graduate of Jackson High School’s Class of 1988, she continued her education attending the Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee.

As a child, Tomika became a member of Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. W.T. Lang. She later moved to Mobile, where she joined Sure Word Outreach under the leadership of the Rev. Archie Rankins.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Wilson Sims; father, Hosie Jones; two grandmothers, Annie Dubose and Eloiuse Jones; two grandfathers, Joe Daffin Jr. and Henry Jones; sister, Fredricka Yolanda Daffin-Horn; five aunts, Doris Jones, Sadie Martin, Martha Gulley, Deloris Jackson and Sally Brown.

Left to cherish her loving memories is her mother, Joan Daffin-Bowe; two daughters, Terrica( Sheeka) Mose and Amanda ( Corey ) Daffin, both of Mobile; four stepchildren, Wilzy (Christa) Sims, Jessie Sims, Shanna (Leon) Waters and Evangerlean (Mark) Clarke, all of Jackson; sisters, Jennifer (Bryan) Armstrong of Upper Marlboro, Md., Hosetta (Jerome) Darrington of Jackson, Patricia Jones of St. Stephens and devoted sister/friend, Yolanda James; two brothers, Algernon Tyrone Daffin of Detroit, Mich., and Marcus (Kalisha) Jones of San Diego, Calif.; aunts, Lela James, Carolyn Scott, Henrietta (Emmitt) Goodwin, Shander McDonald and Loretha Doss, all of Jackson, Linda Dubose of Winston- Salem, N.C., Fannie Pearson and Cheryl ( Willie ) Abston of St. Stephens, AL and favorite aunts, Helen (Willie) Woodard of Jackson and Marilyn Crum of Bessemer; uncles, Joe (Gerginnia) Daffin Jr. of Denver, Colo., and Robert Jones of Jackson; 10 devoted grandchildren, Ar’ Miyah, Jadias, Reginai, Michael, Jo Terriona, Joseph, Makhi, Mikevinyun, W’laysia and Wynter; 10 step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; devoted god-sister, Felicia Dixon; god-daughter, Francesca Foxx; god-sons, Antonia Yelder, Marcquon James and William Morand; two devoted sisters-in-law, Heneritta Cox and Delphine Sims; two devoted nieces, Dominique Robinson and Talisha Cox; devoted nephew, Tylan Christor Fredrick Horn; with a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.
